High Maintenance: Chinese Shar-Peis are a breed of dog that requires minimal grooming. They have short, smooth fur and only need to be bathed and brushed every month or so. Their nails should be trimmed every four to eight weeks. Their ears should be cleaned weekly. Chinese Shar-Peis are also sensitive to heat and should be kept cool at all times.
Low Shedding: Chinese Shar-Peis have a short, rough coat that doesn't shed much. They shed minimally throughout the year, but they do shed more twice a year, during spring and fall. This natural process is how these dogs prepare their coats for the change in seasons and respond to a change in temperature.
Easy to Train: Overall, Shar-Pei is intelligent and trainable but may require patience and consistent training. With the right training and socialization, they can be loving and loyal companions.
Personality: Shar-Pei dogs are highly loyal and deeply devoted to their families. They possess a dignified, independent character and excel as vigilant watchdogs.
Not Good with New Owners: Shar Peis can be wonderful and loving dogs in the right households but owners need to be prepared to meet all their needs.
Good with Kids: The Shar Pei is also a good dog for families where children are just that bit older.
